Blepharoplasty Facial Surgery
Eyelid surgery is a particularly popular plastic surgery procedure among Asians. This is because some people are not happy with the way their eyelid folds above their eye. When used to treat the lower eyelid, it is often complemented with other procedures such as a face lift. The combination of procedures can make the forehead appear tighter.
Since it is typically a small procedure the surgery usually only requires local anesthesia although some cases may involve general anesthesia. The surgery itself could take as much as three hours and the patient is usually ready to go home in a matter of hours after that. During the surgery the skin is cut and fatty tissue is removed.
After blepharoplasty surgery and the anesthesia wears off, the doctor will often prescribe some type of medication for any pain or discomfort as well as antibiotics to ward off infection. The eyes will be lubricated after the surgery and the patient will receive care instructions for the duration of the recovery timeline.
The risks of complications is usually mild and common side effects of the surgery are tearing, itchy, dry eyes, burning eyes, blurred vision, double vision and light sensitivity. The lubricating drops prescribed by the doctor will help relieve these problems.
Rare but serious complications include infection of the treated area or anesthesia related issues. Anesthesia risks include cardiac arrhythmia or allergic reactions. Choosing a qualified surgeon to perform the eyelid surgery will reduce or even eliminate most risks.
